Finn is a smart and curious little three year old boy, who loves to laugh and play. He has an older sister who he loves dearly. Since birth, Finn has been in and out of doctor’s appointments. When he was born, Finn did not pass his new born hearing test. It was later determined that Finn had conductive hearing loss in both ears and has had two different surgeries to places tubes in his ears. Finn’s parents have always been advised that he have some speech delay. At his 30 month appointment, his parents sought help from his pediatrician. Finn’s parents were concerned with his behavioral issues, sleep disturbances, and his vocabulary was not advancing even through he was receiving services from Help Me Grow and multiple speech therapist. It was at this time his pediatrician referred him over to Nationwide Children’s hospital for an autism evaluation.
Finn continues to work with multiple speech, occupational, and behavioral therapist. Finn’s inability to communicate his wants and needs leads to tantrums and frustrations of daily activities. Safety is also a concern for Finn as he would be a risk for elopement. Finn has multiple times run off without warning when he is in public and does not respond to his name being called. Finn also has difficulty in new environments that are stimulating (restaurants, amusement parks, etc) and requires a compression vest for comfort. Also, Finn has difficulty calming down to sleep, his parents have to lay in bed with him each night until he settles down enough to fall asleep.
We are hoping a service dog will provide comfort to Finn in stimulating environments and sleep with him at night. The hope is to give Finn the ability to gain his confidence and give him the independence he wants to explore new things. Thank you for taking the time to learn about Finn, any donations will go towards the cost of his service dog and are greatly appreciated!
