Sebastian’s journey started as a fighter. Born prematurely at just 1 pound, 14 ounces, he spent his first months in the NICU, proving to everyone that he was small but mighty. From the very beginning, he fought hard to survive, and that same determination has shaped who he is today. At birth, doctors discovered he had a rare, previously unknown genetic translocation—one that had never been seen before. With no medical history to reference, his journey became entirely his own, a path with more questions than answers.
But he defied the odds, growing into a curious, creative, and determined child who embraces life with enthusiasm. Today, Sebastian is thriving in his own way. He’s a deep thinker, a history lover, and a determined learner who brings passion to everything he does. He has developed a love for archery, medieval history, and fantasy fiction, especially The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Star Wars. But daily life is still full of challenges—sensory overload, rigid thinking, and intense anxiety make even simple tasks overwhelming. His body doesn’t always cooperate the way he wants it to, and navigating social situations or unexpected changes can be incredibly difficult. He works hard every day in speech, physical, and occupational therapy, pushing through obstacles with the same resilience that has defined him since birth.
After years of navigating these hurdles, we finally had answers: Sebastian is on the autism spectrum, with additional challenges like dyspraxia and high anxiety. Understanding his unique wiring has been a journey, but it has given us the tools to support him in the ways he needs most.
Looking ahead, we want to give Sebastian the support and independence he deserves. A service dog will be more than just a companion—it will be a lifeline. With deep pressure therapy to calm his anxiety, a grounding presence when the world feels overwhelming, and trained behaviors to help him navigate daily life, a service dog will give him the confidence to step into spaces that currently feel impossible. Most importantly, it will allow him to experience the world on his terms—bravely, boldly, and with the support he needs to thrive.
