It only takes one second…one person…to change your life forever. December 15, 2013 is the day when Susie’s life changed. Susie, a 17 year old High School Senior was severely injured in a sledding accident. Susie hit a tree head-on, breaking 4 vertebrae in her neck and 1 in her back. This accident has left Susie a Quadriplegic with no body function below her arm-pits, and limited function of her arms. Susie is an out going kid, involved in sports, raising 4-H livestock, and community functions. Susie plans to continue her education and go to college, although this life event is has caused her to reconsider what her life goals are.
Throughout this event, Susie’s spirit remains strong, she’s quick with a smile and usually has a joke on the tip of her tongue. Susie’s life is going to be different, but she has the right attitude. In rehab, Susie has met a few people with skilled service dogs, and she realizes what a benefit one could be as she moves toward independence. Thank you for your assistance in helping her achieving her goals.
Our deep sympathy to Tina, Chuck, Jenny, all of Susie’s family and friends and teammates. A W.A.G.S. kid now and forever… Susie Mettler was a great inspiration … fierce and ferocious about life and her future. Tonight as the fireworks fly, Susie is in Heaven running to bat the sparks back down to earth for us to see. Forever free on the 4th of July [2014].
