Meet Anna, her dazzling smile and optimism are contagious; she will captivate you with her determination and charm. At just 18 months old, she sat in her very first wheelchair; she instinctively knew what to do and has been unstoppable ever since.
Now, she’s in high school, class of 2025!!
She loves going to high school football games, swimming, playing basketball, listening to music and spending time with her friends and family.
Anna was born with Spina Bifida; a congenital neural tube birth defect. As she grew in utero, her spine failed to close properly, creating a gap in her backbone. The gap exposed her spinal cord, fluid and nerves. Anna had surgery within hours of her birth to repair the opening, however, the damage to the nerves and spinal cord caused permanent paralysis in her lower extremities.
~Anna’s resilience is remarkable; she refuses to be defined by her diagnosis. She never complains when things are difficult; she just figures out a way to make it work.~
A service dog will give Anna extra support with mobility, transfers, daily tasks and constant companionship. Anna will have the confidence and freedom to live life independently.
