Meet Jacob, a sweet five-year old boy with a penchant for tickling and laughter. Jacob was diagnosed with "regressive" autism just prior to his second birthday. Before this, he was late to crawling, however otherwise developed typically by beginning to drink from a cup, eat table foods, and speak basic words like "Mama" and "Dada". The autism set in quickly, and it's now been close to four years since he's spoken. He struggled greatly with walking and eating solid foods for the first two years of his life post-diagnosis. Through regular therapy and wonderfully supportive educators, Jacob has regained fairly "typical" eye contact with those he trusts, and has begun to show interest in engaging with those close to him, however he remains socially distant from his peers, and does not participate in activities considered typical for his age. He also shows no regard for his own safety and is prone to wandering. An autism service dog could prove to be the bridge which serves to guide Jacob toward meaningful socialization and interaction while reducing both social and separation anxieties allowing him to focus more on developing in other areas. Our family sincerely thanks you for your ongoing support
