Nic and his W.A.G.S. service dog Amber have been together since Nic was 5 years old - our family had become mostly housebound because of Nic's struggles with autism, a muscle disorder, and a bone disorder. This, along with other medical issues in our family, was just too much to even try to leave the house with him. But once we got Amber, she made it possible for Nic to leave home without meltdowns, becoming overwhelmed or impulsively running away ... because of her, he can now go to an amusement park, the beach, a park, and even skiing with her by his side :) She's given him a life outside of our home, plus made him secure within our home - sleeping with him and alerting us if he wanders at night or if he is leaving the house or yard. She provides him comfort when he is sick and safety and support when he's upset. She's not only cared for Nic like this, but she’s shown our whole family love and care and helped each of us with our own hurts and struggles. She's a member of our family, a caregiver, and a friend.
Now, Amber’s age and health prevent her from being out working with Nic. She can grow old with Nic at home, but beyond that, Nic is going to need another service dog in order to be out and about in the community. We are a family that knows, first hand, the miracle of having a service dog in Nic’s life.
If you feel led to help us in this process we would be so grateful. Thank you for your love, prayers, and assistance.
